Wings on Vinyl: The Albums Worth Owning and the Best Pressings

Which Wings albums to buy on vinyl in 2026: the Wild Life, Red Rose Speedway, Band on the Run and Venus and Mars half-speed masters, One Hand Clapping, Wings Over America and the 2025 Wings 3LP.

Wings on Vinyl: The Albums Worth Owning and the Best Pressings

Four Wings studio albums now have 50th anniversary half-speed masters cut by Miles Showell at Abbey Road: Wild Life (February 4, 2022), Red Rose Speedway (Record Store Day, April 22, 2023), Band on the Run (February 2, 2024) and Venus and Mars (March 21, 2025). Add One Hand Clapping (June 14, 2024), the July 12, 2019 vinyl reissue of Wings Over America and the 32-track Wings 3LP from November 7, 2025, and most of the band's story is available new on good vinyl for about $35 to $115 a title.

Wings made seven studio albums between 1971 and 1979, plus the triple live album that topped the US chart in 1977. This guide leaves the question of which album is best to our ranking of every Wings album and answers a practical one instead: which Wings records to buy on vinyl today, and which pressing of each.

Everything listed here is an official release you can buy new. Prices are approximate US street prices at the time of writing.

Our Picks

Top 7 for 2026

#1
Wild Life 50th Anniversary Half-Speed Master LP
MPL / Capitol
Most Underrated

Wild Life 50th Anniversary Half-Speed Master LP

Wings' debut, recorded quickly in the summer of 1971 by Paul, Linda, Denny Laine and Denny Seiwell, was panned on release and has been reassessed since. The half-speed master, released on February 4, 2022, was cut by Miles Showell at Abbey Road from high-resolution transfers of the original tapes, made in July 2021. The loose, first-take feel of Mumbo, Some People Never Know and Dear Friend suits a quiet pressing. At about $35 it is the easiest way to own a first-generation Wings album without hunting for a clean 1971 Apple original.

#2
Red Rose Speedway 50th Anniversary Half-Speed Master LP
MPL / Capitol
Grab It While You Can

Red Rose Speedway 50th Anniversary Half-Speed Master LP

Issued as an RSD First on April 22, 2023, days before the album's 50th birthday, and billed as a run of 5,000 copies, this 180g pressing was half-speed mastered by Miles Showell from the original 1973 tapes. It comes in a gatefold with an obi strip, a 12-page booklet and a printed inner. Red Rose Speedway, credited to Paul McCartney and Wings, gave the band its first US number one single, My Love, and closes with the long medley. Copies still surface new at around $35, but stock comes and goes.

#3
Band on the Run 50th Anniversary Half-Speed Master LP
MPL / Capitol
Best Overall

Band on the Run 50th Anniversary Half-Speed Master LP

The single-LP half-speed master from February 2, 2024 uses the original US running order, with Helen Wheels on side one. The 2LP edition, about $50, adds the Underdubbed mixes: the album without its orchestral overdubs, which lets you hear the Lagos sessions as the three-piece band of Paul, Linda and Denny Laine. If you buy one Wings record, make it this, and choose the 2LP if you already know the album well. Our Band on the Run 50th anniversary review compares the two discs in detail.

#4
Venus and Mars 50th Anniversary Half-Speed Master LP
MPL / Capitol
Best Packaging

Venus and Mars 50th Anniversary Half-Speed Master LP

Released on March 21, 2025 and cut from a high-resolution transfer of the 1975 master tapes, this is the most elaborate package in the series. MPL describes it as a reproduction of the original UK pressing, with the circular title sticker, the sun and planets bookmark sticker and two posters inside the Hipgnosis gatefold. Musically it is the band that toured the world in 1975 and 1976, with Jimmy McCulloch and Joe English, from Rock Show to Listen to What the Man Said. At about $40 it is the best-presented Wings LP you can buy new.

#5
One Hand Clapping 180g 2LP
MPL / Capitol
Best Archive Release

One Hand Clapping 180g 2LP

Recorded live in the studio at Abbey Road in August 1974 by Paul, Linda, Denny Laine, Jimmy McCulloch and Geoff Britton, and bootlegged for decades, One Hand Clapping had its first official release on June 14, 2024. The 180g 2LP includes material that did not appear in the original film. A web-exclusive edition added a 7" of solo acoustic performances Paul recorded in the Abbey Road back garden. At about $45 for the standard 2LP, it is the best record of Wings as a working band in the short Britton era. See our One Hand Clapping review.

#6
Wings Over America 3LP
MPL / Capitol
Best Live Album

Wings Over America 3LP

The triple live album from December 1976 went to number one on the Billboard 200 and documents the 1976 American tour, mixing Venus and Mars material with five Beatles songs, among them Lady Madonna, Blackbird and Yesterday. It was reissued on July 12, 2019 on black 180g vinyl and a limited edition with transparent red, green and blue discs, remastered at Abbey Road and with a tour poster. Expect about $50 to $60 for the black 3LP. It pairs naturally with the Rockshow concert film from the same tour.

#7
Wings (2025) 3LP Collection
MPL / Capitol / UMe
Best Starting Point

Wings (2025) 3LP Collection

Curated by Paul and released on November 7, 2025, this 32-song anthology is the best single overview of the band, including singles that never appeared on the studio albums, such as Hi, Hi, Hi, Junior's Farm and Mull of Kintyre. The black 3LP is $79.98 at Paul's official US store. The limited colour edition, on translucent clear, green and pink 180g vinyl in a die-cut hardback slipcase with a poster and sticker sheet, is $114.98 there. The booklet has an introduction by Paul, artwork notes by Po of Hipgnosis with editorial by Pete Paphides, and portraits by Humphrey Ocean. Our Wings box set review compares every format.

Which Wings Albums to Buy First

If you are new to Wings on vinyl, start with Band on the Run, then Venus and Mars, then Wings Over America. That trio covers the band's commercial peak, from the Lagos sessions in 1973 to the American tour of 1976, and all three are available new in good pressings.

Next, go back to the start with Wild Life and Red Rose Speedway. Both were dismissed by critics at the time and have been reassessed since, and the half-speed masters are the cheapest way to hear them at their best. One Hand Clapping sits chronologically just after Band on the Run, as a document of the new line-up learning to play together.

If you only have room for one record, the 2025 Wings 3LP gives you 32 songs, including the non-album singles. A shorter single-LP and single-CD edition exists, but it drops Hi, Hi, Hi and Junior's Farm, so the 3LP is the version to buy. Our Wings box set review covers the Blu-ray with its Dolby Atmos mixes too.

What About Speed of Sound, London Town and Back to the Egg?

Wings at the Speed of Sound (1976), London Town (1978) and Back to the Egg (1979) have not had the half-speed treatment. Speed of Sound turned 50 on March 26, 2026, but as of September 2026 no anniversary pressing had been announced, so do not pay inflated prices for rumoured editions.

All three were big sellers, so secondhand originals from 1976 to 1979 are plentiful and usually inexpensive. A clean UK or US original is a perfectly good way to own them, and Back to the Egg originals still turn up with their printed inner sleeves intact.

Venus and Mars and Speed of Sound both received expanded Archive Collection editions in November 2014, and the Speed of Sound vinyl was a 2LP with a bonus disc. It is worth buying used at a fair price, because the bonus material is not on the standard LP. London Town and Back to the Egg have not yet had Archive Collection editions.

Pro Tip: When buying a 1970s Wings original, ask the seller for photos of both labels and the run-out groove. It takes a minute and saves you from an expensive surprise.

Half-Speed Reissue or Original Pressing?

For Wild Life, Red Rose Speedway, Band on the Run and Venus and Mars, the half-speed reissues are the sensible default. They are cut from high-resolution transfers of the original master tapes, pressed on 180g vinyl, and cost about the same as a decent used original.

Originals still have their fans. A clean first pressing of Band on the Run or Venus and Mars can sound superb, and they carry their own period details. But condition varies hugely, and most 1970s copies show wear. Our tutorial on telling an original from a reissue covers checks that apply to Wings records too.

A habit common among long-time collectors: buy the half-speed to play, and keep an original on the shelf if you love the packaging. That way the rare copy does not wear out. For Paul's solo records on the same basis, see our guide to the best McCartney vinyl pressings.

Pro Tip: Store your half-speed pressings upright and in anti-static inner sleeves from the day you open them. Heavy 180g records warp if they are stacked flat or leaned at an angle for months.

Colored Vinyl and Exclusives

Colour and exclusive editions are now part of almost every Wings release. The Wings compilation came in a clear, green and pink 3LP, Wings Over America had a red, green and blue edition in 2019, and One Hand Clapping had a web-exclusive bonus 7".

Most of our members treat these as collectibles rather than listening copies. The music is the same, and collectors often report that colour vinyl can be a touch noisier than black. If a colour edition costs only a few dollars more and you like it, go for it. If it has sold out and trades at double the price, the black edition is the smarter buy.

The exception is exclusive content. The One Hand Clapping backyard 7" carries performances not on the standard 2LP, so completists should take note.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Band on the Run in the February 2024 half-speed master. The single LP (about $35) has the US running order with Helen Wheels, and the 2LP (about $50) adds the Underdubbed mixes. Newcomers should start with the single LP.
Wild Life (2022), Red Rose Speedway (2023), Band on the Run (2024) and Venus and Mars (2025), all cut by Miles Showell at Abbey Road for their 50th anniversaries. Wings at the Speed of Sound, London Town and Back to the Egg have not had one yet.
Yes. The 2019 black 180g 3LP remains easy to find new at about $50 to $60. The limited red, green and blue edition is harder to find and usually costs more secondhand.
The full 32-track set came on 3LP (black or limited colour), 2CD and Blu-ray with Dolby Atmos and 5.1 mixes by Giles Martin and Steve Orchard. A shorter single-LP and single-CD edition was also issued.
Yes for the albums without half-speed editions, such as London Town and Back to the Egg, because originals are plentiful and cheap. For the half-speed titles, a clean original is a collector's choice rather than a necessity.
