The Best Beatles and Wings Box Sets Ranked: Which One to Start With

Anthology Collection, Rubber Soul and Revolver Special Editions, 1964 US Albums in Mono, the Wings anthology and McCartney I II III, compared on price, contents and who each box suits.

The Best Beatles and Wings Box Sets Ranked: Which One to Start With

The Beatles box set shelf got much bigger in the last two years: the 1964 US Albums in Mono box (November 22, 2024), the 191-track Anthology Collection on 12LP and 8CD (November 21, 2025), the 32-track Wings anthology (November 7, 2025) and, due on October 2, 2026, the Rubber Soul Special Edition on 4CD or 5LP plus a 7" single. Prices run from about $40 for the McCartney I II III CD box to about $375 for the Anthology vinyl box.

This page ranks the boxes you can buy new right now, on three tests: how much genuinely new or newly mixed material is inside, how good the documentation is, and whether the format suits the content. Long-deleted boxes that only trade secondhand are left out, and all prices are approximate US street prices or official US store prices.

Our Picks

Top 7 for 2026

#1
McCartney I II III (2022) Box Set
Capitol / MPL
Best Under $50

McCartney I II III (2022) Box Set

The most affordable box here. Released on August 5, 2022, it gathers McCartney (1970), McCartney II (1980) and McCartney III (2020), the three albums Paul made almost single-handedly across fifty years. The 3CD version is about $40 and black vinyl about $90; the limited colour vinyl set puts McCartney on clear, II on white and III on cream vinyl. Every version includes three 8 x 10 photo prints with introductions from Paul, and the slipcase art and typography are by Ed Ruscha. There are no outtakes, so buy it for the albums themselves and the packaging.

#2
Wings (2025) 3LP Collection
MPL / Capitol / UMe
Best Wings Set

Wings (2025) 3LP Collection

Curated by Paul and released on November 7, 2025, this is the definitive Wings anthology: 32 songs on 2CD or 3LP, with a 12-song single CD and single LP for casual listeners. The Dolby Atmos and 5.1 mixes by Giles Martin and Steve Orchard are not in the 2CD or 3LP; they come on a separate Blu-ray Audio sold through Paul's store and SuperDeluxeEdition, and 17 of its Atmos mixes are new, including 'With a Little Luck' and 'Arrow Through Me'. Expect about $25 for the 2CD and about $80 for the 3LP ($79.98 at Paul's official US store). Our full Wings box set review covers every format.

#3
Revolver Special Edition Super Deluxe (5CD)
Apple / UMC
Best Special Edition

Revolver Special Edition Super Deluxe (5CD)

Released on October 28, 2022, the Revolver Super Deluxe holds 63 tracks: the new stereo mix by Giles Martin and Sam Okell, 31 session takes and home demos across two discs, the original mono album, and a four-track EP. The 100-page book has a foreword by Paul, an essay by Questlove and extracts from Klaus Voormann's graphic novel about the cover. The 5CD box was about $140 at launch and the 4LP plus 7" EP about $200. For many fans this is the best of the Special Edition boxes so far, because the sessions show the band inventing a new studio sound in real time.

#4
Rubber Soul Special Edition Super Deluxe (4CD)
Apple / Capitol
Newest Release

Rubber Soul Special Edition Super Deluxe (4CD)

The newest box, due on October 2, 2026, with a new stereo mix by Giles Martin and Sam Okell from the original four-track tapes. The 4CD edition ($149.98 at the official US store) holds the new stereo mix, a sessions disc with early takes, home demos and 2023 mixes of Day Tripper and We Can Work It Out, the original mono album and the Capitol US album, plus an 88-page hardbound book with a new introduction by Paul. The 5LP plus 7" edition ($229.98) carries the same programme on vinyl. Across the sessions there are 20 previously unreleased takes and three unreleased home demos. Store versions with posters and art cards cost $6 to $10 more.

#5
Anthology Collection (2025 Edition), 8CD
Apple / Capitol / UMG
Best Overall

Anthology Collection (2025 Edition), 8CD

Released on November 21, 2025, the Anthology Collection brings back Anthology 1, 2 and 3, remastered by Giles Martin, and adds Anthology 4: 191 tracks in all. Anthology 4 contains 13 previously unreleased recordings, 17 tracks drawn from the Special Edition boxes, and new Jeff Lynne mixes of Free as a Bird and Real Love. The 8CD box comes as four 2CD sets in gatefold digisleeves with booklets, inside a slipcase carrying Klaus Voormann's original triptych art, typically about $150 to $185. If you want the band's story told through outtakes, demos and live cuts, this is the one box to own.

#6
The Beatles: 1964 US Albums in Mono (8LP)
Apple / Capitol / UMG
Best for Vinyl Purists

The Beatles: 1964 US Albums in Mono (8LP)

Released on November 22, 2024 alongside the Beatles '64 documentary, this 180g vinyl box collects seven Capitol-era American albums in mono on eight LPs: Meet the Beatles!, The Beatles' Second Album, the US A Hard Day's Night, Something New, The Beatles' Story (2LP, box-exclusive), Beatles '65 and The Early Beatles. Unlike the 2014 US Albums box, which used the 2009 digital masters, these were cut from the original mono tapes on an all-analog chain. One caveat: most of The Early Beatles is a stereo fold-down, as it was in 1965. Prices have ranged from about $200 on sale to $300 list.

#7
Anthology Collection (2025 Edition), 12LP
Apple / Capitol / UMG
Best Collector Box

Anthology Collection (2025 Edition), 12LP

The vinyl version carries the same 191 tracks on twelve 180g LPs, packaged as four triple-gatefold 3LP albums in a slipcase, with Mark Lewisohn's original sleeve notes for Volumes 1 to 3 and new track notes for Volume 4 by Kevin Howlett. The official US store lists it at $374.98, and the store-exclusive version adds four 12-inch band photo art cards in a numbered black envelope, limited to 8,500. Anthology 4 alone has 26 tracks never before on vinyl. It is a big commitment and a lot of disc-flipping, but as a reference set on vinyl it has no equal in the catalogue.

Our Ranking, and Which Box to Start With

The list above runs by price. Ranked for a fan buying a first Beatles-family box, the order is different. First, the Anthology Collection on CD, because it covers the whole story from 1958 to Now and Then in one purchase. Second, the Revolver Super Deluxe, the strongest single-album deep dive so far. Third, the Rubber Soul Super Deluxe, which follows the same formula and adds the Capitol US album. Fourth, the Wings anthology, the easiest route into the 1970s. Fifth, McCartney I II III. Sixth and seventh, the two vinyl collector boxes, which only make sense once you know you want vinyl at that price.

For a Paul-first fan, swap the order: start with Wings, then McCartney I II III, then Anthology. The Wings set is the only single-purchase overview of the band's whole 1971 to 1979 run, and it does not require you to own anything else first.

If you already own the 1990s Anthology CDs, the main reason to buy the 2025 edition is Anthology 4. It is also sold separately on 2CD and 3LP, which is the cheaper path for upgraders.

What to Look For in a Beatles Box Set

Start with what is actually new. Special Edition boxes contain a new stereo mix, and the Super Deluxe versions add session outtakes, demos and the original mono mix. Compilation boxes such as Wings and McCartney I II III are about presentation and convenience rather than unreleased material, although the Wings Blu-ray does add new Dolby Atmos mixes.

Next, check which mixes you are getting. The Revolver and Rubber Soul Super Deluxe sets include the original mono album, which is how most listeners in Britain first heard these records in the 1960s. If mono matters to you, these sets give you both mixes in one place.

Finally, look at the book. The Special Edition books (100 pages for Revolver, 88 pages for Rubber Soul) include session notes, tape box images and essays, and they are a big part of the value. The CD and vinyl Super Deluxe boxes usually share the same book, so if you are choosing on price, the CD version is often the better deal.

Pro Tip: Many Super Deluxe CD boxes drop well below launch price within a year or two, while vinyl boxes tend to hold their price or rise. If you want vinyl, buy early. If you want CD, you can often afford to wait.

CD or Vinyl: Which Format Should You Choose?

For boxes built around outtakes, CD makes a lot of sense. You will want to skip, compare takes and jump between discs, and a sessions programme is easier to navigate on CD than across several LP sides. The price gap is also large: the Rubber Soul 4CD is $149.98 against $229.98 for the 5LP at the official US store.

Vinyl makes more sense for the finished albums. The 1964 US Albums in Mono box exists only on vinyl and was cut all-analog from the mono tapes on a Studer A80 and Neumann VMS70 lathe, which is the whole point of buying it. If your main enjoyment is dropping the needle on side one and listening through, the vinyl sets are hard to beat.

Then there is Blu-ray. Rubber Soul gets a standalone Blu-ray with the new Dolby Atmos mix and hi-res stereo ($35.98 at the official US store), and the Wings Atmos and 5.1 mixes are on their own Blu-ray Audio. Revolver, by contrast, never had a Blu-ray, and its Atmos mix is streaming-only. If you have a surround system, the Blu-rays are often the cheapest way to hear the new mixes at their best.

What We Skipped and Why

We left out The Beatles in Mono 14LP box. The 2025 repress, cut from the original analog mono masters and shipping from July 18, 2025, was sold only through the official Beatles stores rather than general retailers, at £429.99 in the UK, and it sold out on pre-orders. If it reappears, the official store is the only legitimate new source.

We also skipped Paul's The 7" Singles Box from 2022. It held 80 singles and 163 songs, but it was limited to 3,000 copies and sold out within days, and secondhand copies now trade far above the original price. Older boxes such as the 2009 stereo CD box are still worth buying used, but they are not new products, so they are outside the scope of this guide.

Finally, beware of unofficial "complete collection" boxes on marketplaces with no clear label. If a Beatles box set is not listed on the official store or by a major retailer, treat it with suspicion.

Pro Tip: Before buying any box, list the albums you already own. If you already have the 2009 remasters and the earlier Special Editions, Anthology 4 on its own may give you more new music per dollar than another full box.
Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

The Anthology Collection (2025 Edition) on 8CD. It runs from the Quarrymen era to Now and Then, so it gives the whole arc before you commit to any single-album deep dive. If you already know you love one period, the Revolver Super Deluxe is the better first box.
The new Giles Martin and Sam Okell stereo mix, a sessions disc, the original mono album and the Capitol US album, with an 88-page book. It is out October 2, 2026 at $149.98 on 4CD or $229.98 on 5LP plus 7" from the official US store. The 2CD deluxe ($24.98) is the budget way to hear the session highlights.
No. The Atmos and 5.1 mixes by Giles Martin and Steve Orchard are only on the separate Wings Blu-ray Audio, sold through Paul's official store and SuperDeluxeEdition. The 2CD and 3LP carry the same 32 songs in stereo.
For mono fans, yes. The 2014 box was cut from the 2009 digital masters, while the 2024 box was cut all-analog from the original mono tapes. It covers only the 1964 albums plus The Early Beatles, so it replaces part of the 2014 box rather than all of it.
Yes, on 2CD and 3LP, which is the cheaper option if you already own Anthology 1 to 3. On its own it gives you all 13 previously unreleased recordings and the new Jeff Lynne mixes of Free as a Bird and Real Love.
